Variation on a Theme no. 1: The Wren (the opera singer of the bird world)

I have been developing a series of Wren song visuals over the last decade in screen print, digital print, LED and Neon.

The first image here is a digital drawing of a new five-foot diameter LED piece was backlit and was included in my show at @vanegallery in 2026, which opened on the 4th March.

Over this last ten years, I have been inspired by the enthusiasm of artist and natural history sound recordist Geoff Sample (@realwildsong) for the songs and sounds of birds, and wild soundscapes. I’ve also collaborated with many artists when developing these images. The latest version is now in Lockhaugh Farm, Gateshead.
