An exhibition of LED pieces based on birdsong. Redcar Contemporary Arts

This work is part of a long-term research project about birdsong which began in 2016 and the work was first shown at Gatehead Library in 2024 (see also mikecollier.co.uk/index.php/2025/01/11/singing-in-the-dark).
It is inspired by Dawn Chorus’s Mike has heard over many years in Tyne and Wear and Northumberland. His LED birdsong pieces celebrate the vibrant, shimmering, beauty and richness of birdsong.
Mike often works collaboratively, and colleagues involved in this project over the last eight years include: natural history sound recordist Geoff Sample, musician and composer Bennett Hogg, poet, the late Gerry Loose and Tom Jordan.
