In the summer of 2025, he undertook an artist residency of Sado Island with the support of the Daiwa Foundation and Professor John Williams at Sophia University, Tokyo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mike was based for most of the time in Kitaushima, on the remote northern tip of the Island. Tanizaki in \u2018In Praise of Shadows\u2019 talks of \u2026 \u2018A golden subdued ray, cast in the surrounding darkness, like the shining horizon line at sunset\u2019. The sunsets on the West Coast of Sado Island (the island of gold) are thrilling, and the shadows cast are both luminous and dark.
