They say that necessity is the mother of invention; illness limited my visits to the studio, and so in the spirit of Count Xavier de Maitre (who in 1794 wrote ‘A Journey Round My Room’), I produced a diary/journal in eighty-one iPhone images of wall shadows from 08.00-midnight round my flat.

In a number of cultures, shadows are believed to be intricately linked to the human soul. The ancient Greeks held the belief that shadows were an extension of one’s soul and that they contained a person’s true essence… and in traditional Chinese culture, shadows were thought to be the manifestation of one’s soul.
